Smith in Melbourne before opening his own workshop. This beautiful instrument has been officially appraised by Alex W Grant (a copy of the appraisal can be emailed as requested)who has described the violin as &quot;in excellent condition&quot; and valued it at $10,500 (as of Aug 5th 2011). There is a similar H.S. Sampson violin of the same year in the Power House Museum (NSW). Robinson in 2007 (number 223). It is in new condition. The back/sides and neck are made from American 'big leaf' maple and the top is made from 'port orford' spruce. The purfling, made by the maker is from pear wood (centre) and fibre.The body, f holes and back of the head, with scribed in centre line, is a personal model.</description>
